This list is a WIP, but here are some of my faves. Note that I didn’t put anything obvious on here, like Chrome, Sketch, or Postmaster.

Projects & tasks

  • OmniFocus 4 – obsessed
  • Notion – better than the browser

Marketing/Ecommerce

  • Screaming Frog SEO Spider
  • Ghost browser (+ a proxy) – for true international previews

Automation

  • Alfred – the holy grail. how did I live before him?
  • Keyjerk Reactions – assign keyboard shortcuts to Zoom reactions

Tracking

  • Timing App – tracks everything you do and can auto-assign activity to client projects based on conditional rules (e.g., file path, website name)
  • Whatpulse – see how many times you’ve clicked your mouse and more!

Text

  • Obsidian – I’m a convert
  • Tot – better than stickies for text I need for like 2 minutes

Code editing

  • Sublime text – make fun of me for living in 2014 all you want, I like it because it’s lightweight.
  • Diffchecker – it’s elementary but works on text and code and there’s zero learning curve

Files & folders

  • Rename-Files – Use regex to rename files!!
  • PathSnagger 2 – Get clickable file:// links — I paste these into Omnifocus tasks
  • The Unarchiver – I use this to open .rar on mac

Graphics, media & creative

  • ImageOptim – crush jpgs with ease
  • tinypngapp – crush pngs with ease (ImageOptim can do both, obviously, but I like this one better for pngs)
  • Color Picker – better than the system one
  • Image Crop – batch crop loads of images without having to fire up PSD and Adobe Bridge
  • macSVG – make tiny edits to pngs without having to fire up Sketch, Illustrator, etc.

Screen capture

  • OBS – streamers use this and it has loads of features but I like it for screen recordings with sound
  • Cleanshot – system default replacement for screenshots with a lot more features
  • LICECap – sketchy UI but it takes the lightest weight screen recording gifs you’ve ever seen

Screen manipulation

  • Bigclock – put a big clock on your screen, over top of any window
  • Plash – use a website as your desktop background
  • Shroud – hide the 1 million windows you have open

System

  • Omni Disk Sweeper – no-nonsense hard drive cleanup including application library files you don’t need. don’t use if you don’t understand your computer.
