You know what grinds my gears? Unnecessary PNGs. They’re huge compared to JPGs. And if you’re anything like me, you have a 14GB folder on your desktop called Cleaning Desktop to keep your desktop clean, and it has 589 unnecessarily PNG screenshots in it. Yes, you could bulk replace with jpg using a Service you created in Automator (I did) but don’t you wish your screenshots started out as JPGs in the first place? I know I do!
Well, now they can.
- Open terminal
- Type defaults write com.apple.screencapture type JPG and hit enter
- Close terminal
- Test that it works by taking a screenshot!
- Profit
